Question by FavoriteBird: Can anyone demystify Skype for me?
I am about to travel to Japan for 1 month and need an affordable and convenient way to contact my friends/fam back home and in Japan. basically I just need to know what kind of “plan” to get on with Skype. Here are the details:

1. I need to be able to call computers and cell phones back home in the U.S. AND in Japan

2. I’d like to be able to call others in Japan and U.S. from my computer AND from some sort of mobile device ( I have an iPod Touch 2nd generation that I heard works as a mobile device on Skype)

3. I want to be able to send/receive text messages on my computer AND my iPod Touch (assuming it is compatible with Skype mobile)

4. Do I need a subscription or should I do Skype “Pay as you go” ?

ANY advice you may have that will help me out would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Just do pay as you go, the rates are low enough for you not to have to worry about it. I’m not sure about sending texts with your touch though, I don’t think skype mobile works for the Ipod, unless maybe you’ve jailbroken it. you’d need a mobile phone with internet to use skype mobile, if that’s the case.

Question by rebecca 93: Pandora for blackberry?
I have a blackberry curve 8520 from t-mobile. I want to download Pandora but when i open the app it says “This product will use a large amount of data and ou are responsible for all data charges. Please contact your carrier’s customer service to comfirm/add an unlimited data plan.”
Does this mean that I will be charged for using pandora? I thought it was free. My parents will kill me if I buy anything on the phone so I wanted to double check. Is pandora for blackberry free?

Best answer:

Answer by zbalat
The app is free.
The warning means just what it says. Pandora uses a lot of data so if you don’t have an unlimited data plan you will be charged for the data usage.

Question by reezy: blackberry curve 8520 problems?
so i got the blackberry curve 8520 for my birthday and wont to go lookout mobile security and other apps. i don’t have a data plan so i just wont to use wifi or ill download to my desktop and than usb it to my phone, how do i do this ! i shouldn’t be that hard, its frustrating me so so so so so so much. can any one give me a hand and don’t bother posting ” you cant use apps with out a data plan ” because im pretty sure i don’t need to use the data plan if im downloading to my desk top :L cheers
Okay so also when I conect my bb to the computer and go add remove apps and than search for apps it says ” no apps are avabible ” WTH I got the phone like two days ago its not like the OS is out of date ! Can some one help me please !!

Best answer:

Answer by Randy
Well I guess you being pretty sure would make you pretty wrong. Most apps that run on BB do in fact communicate in the background, so a data plan is necessary. The only thing I could suggest is once its downloaded to your PC, open desktop manager, and use the app loader to get it from your PC to your phone.

verizon smartphone data plan?

Question by panicbdfan: verizon smartphone data plan?
so i am due for an upgrade soon & wanted to get the palm pixi which is a smartphone and requires a data plan.

so right now i have a env3 and am paying to have internet on my phone and another 3G multimedia phone.
on the the website it say
“All Windows Mobile, Palm, BlackBerry and Android Smartphones require a data feature of $ 29.99 or higher OR a data plan”

so my question is since i am paying to have internet on my phone is that considered a data plan? & will that then allow me to keep paying the same and still get the smartphone?
or will i still have to switch over to the $ 29.99 data feature?

& if so what does that thirty bucks cover?

& since i am the only one eligible for an upgrade and i still have to pay for the internet on the other multimedia phone, will i have to pay that and the thirty bucks on top of it? or is there a data plan that covers both the new smartphone data & the multimedia data , & if so how much it is?

thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Nathan
if you want the Pixi, your $ 10 data plan will be changed to the $ 30 plan. That plan gives you unlimited internet access on the phone- email, web browsing, apps, etc. The other multimedia phone will still carry the $ 10 plan- data is always billed per phone, so that if someone wants a phone with no internet access, they can get one, and you’re not stuck paying extra for a shared data plan when not everyone wants it

Iphone Data Plan Cancel?

Question by Michelle: Iphone Data Plan Cancel?
My family recently opened an AT&T account and we got two lines with two iphones. My cousin took one of the phones and is using it with t-mobile with plans to call in and cancel the data plan on it later in the month. I was wondering since I live in NYC and I use internet on my laptop and not my cell, could I also call in and cancel the data plan without AT&T threatening us in some way?

P.S. I know you can not just call in and say “I want to cancel my Iphone data plan,” but there are ways around that =P

Any help would be nice =)

Best answer:

Answer by #1 Mustang Fan
No there are not ways around it for very long. Every time an iPhone is turned on it registerd with the network and the device IMEI is captured in the billing system. If the billing system sees there is no iPhone data plan it will automatically be added back on without any contact to you

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by homebuyeratl: How much to add new line & cancel it after 30 days with AT&T?
My parents have AT&T. I am required by my company to have T-Mobile. I would like to get an unlocked iPhone and replace my blackberry.

Could I add a line ($ 9.99?) to their contract and then cancel it after 30 days (keeping the phone). What would be the cost of doing so? Is the ETF per phone or is there just one “family plan” contract?

My possible options:
Contract-Free 16GB iPhone is $ 699. Way too much.
Entirely New Contract and breaking after 30 days is about $ 599.
Adding to family plan and breaking it?!?!?

Best answer:

Answer by Deanna.
Most likely if you add a line to the family plan.,with a contract then you decide to cancel, you will be charged. Either way you’ll be spending over $ 500.

Question by M: How do I know what I’m being charges when downloading an App from verizon?
In looking at voice plans from Verizon Wireless, it says stuff about downloading fees and how it may cost either data OR airtime (aka minutes) “Depending on your plan”.

Anyone know whether a download from Get It Now takes Minutes or data? I don’t have a “data” plan…

Example: I use Mobile IM. Every time I log in to it, I see the little “phone” icon with two arrows going in opposite diretions. Does this mean it’s using JUST airtime? Or am I being charged for megabytes too? (the same thing used for surfing mobile web, checking E-mail ect…?)

Please, serious answers only.
Thank you!

if you have you phone manual it should tell you what the symbols mean. also you could call and talk to someone at verizon or look at your bill charges and see exactly what you are being charged for. hope this helps.

Q&A: Free or Cheap Ringtones?

Question by Paul: Free or Cheap Ringtones?
I have a Motorola IDEN i776 cellphone and my service is through Boost Mobile with the “Unlimited Plan”….I have run searches for websites for free ringtones and even ringtone creators, but nothing seems to work. “Free Is Never Free” and for some reason the ringtones I have created will not send or load? I contacted Boost and they said they don’t support true MP3 ringtones….so what do I do or where should I go, and how do I find out if my problem is with the provider and not the phone…..$ 2.99 a tone stinks…….thanks
I JUST FOUND OUT THAT BOOST MOBILE PHONE THAT I PURCHASED WITH MY PLAN IS “LOCKED” IT WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO DOWNLOAD RINGTONES FROM ANY WEBSITE, EMAIL, TEXT. I CAN ONLY DOWNLOAD RINGTONES FROM THERE SITE AT $ 2.99 EACH…..THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT ANSWERED.
