Need advice on upcoming cellphone contract ending/starting?
Question by GoodJuiceBox&Nap: Need advice on upcoming cellphone contract ending/starting?
Okay so I have been with Verizon since 07/05 according to vzw.com. They added months on my contract because I changed from Family Plan “x” to Family Plan “y” so w/e it finally ends this September 26!
I am going to go with T-Mobile this time just because of its high rates/cust. service but I wanted to get the 1 year plan (and i know it will be more expensive for upfront fees) but if i have to ill get the 2 year plan, If i was to purchase an unlocked phone off ebay or something, or if i was to purchase an actual T-Mobile phone off ebay, would I be able to just activate it with a new T-Mobile contract? or do I have to purchase thier phone with the service?
I just dont want to waste too much money but I dont want to stay with bad service (in case it is) for 2 years.
Also I live in texas, and with my verizon bill my plan is a Family Plan and its the 69.99 plan with just 2 lines and my bill comes out to like 90.00 each month, does verizon charge more surcharges than T-Mobile?
I am gonna probably get Family Times and not MyFave 5 exactly becasue of what you mentioned, its the same gimmick with Cingulars Unity line feature… but I just simply wanted good service at a good price.

You will be sorely disappointed going from Verizon to T-Mobile. T-mobile uses an older GSM technology that is less reliable than Verizon’s CDMA technology. Note that if you get the Fave 5 plan with T-mobile you will not get unlimited mobile to mobile. T-mobile also extends your contract by a year when changing plans (not sure if it adds a year from the service end date or the date of plan change. the store i work for just started carrying T Mobile). Verizon adds a year from the date you change it. Most companies have a policy like this and Verizon is the best company as far as coverage and customer service so if you leave them you will find the grass is not greener on the other side. T Mobile has horrible coverage compared to Verizon.
I’m not flaming T Mobile because I had them before when I lived in a more urban area than i do now and it worked ok but now that I have Verizon i’ll never go back. With T Mobile the less bars you have the more chances of your call dropping. I’ve made calls that lasted over an hour with Verizon where I had just one bar and if i didnt look at the phones display i never would have guessed I only had one bar. I live out in the middle of nowhere now so it makes a difference I would have no service here with T Mobile.
As with all things you get what you pay for. T Mobile is cheaper because you’re using an outdated technology. If you are going to go GSM get AT&T, because they have plans to upgrade their network technology in the fairly near future.

Are contracts required for a cellphone?
Question by hello: Are contracts required for a cellphone?
I want a new phone and new service but I do not want anymore 2-year contracts because if the service is bad I want to be able to change it. So my question is do mobile phone service providers such as Sprint or Verizon or AT&T have I guess for lack of a better word “plans” in which you do not sign a contract but just buy the phone and pay month-by-month without a contract and still get the same things as if you had signed a contract, such as amount of minutes and of texts, etc.? Thanks for your help.

The reason cell phones are so cheap is so the carrier pays off you’re phone off with the first and second month’s bill. Because they make so much money locking you in for two years, so carriers make it very difficult for you to do that.
But for you’re purpose, it’s better to get a phone that’s compatible with At&t and T-mobile, Because if you get a Sprint or Verizon phone, you can only use it on the Sprint or Verizon network, respectively, since they don’t use sim cards. Also, Sprint and Verizon don’t allow phones that aren’t theirs onto their network.
Get the Nexus One, it’s arguably better than the Iphone and everyone compares every phone to the phone, but the Nexus One actually wins. It’s $ 529 and is compatible with At&t and T-Mobile. You can just switch sim cards.
http://www.google.com/phone Get the unlocked At&t one, because if you get the unlocked T-mobile one, it won’t be compatible with 3g on At&t.

Is anyone familiar with Sprint’s “cellphone as modem plan”?
Question by Jay: Is anyone familiar with Sprint’s “cellphone as modem plan”?
not sure if it’s out in the market yet, but i was reading about it in wikipedia. they have or will have a plan where you can use your cellphone for internet access to any computer.
right now i have the sprint’s mobile broadband sierra wireless AirCard, wich uses the cell phone network for internet, but if it was a cellphone also, i could cancel my regular cell.

Would a Virgin Mobile Plan work on a Virgin Mobile Cellphone that was previously prepaid?
Would a Virgin Mobile Plan work on a Virgin Mobile Cellphone that was previously prepaid?
Say I buy a used Virgin Mobile Phone and I want to put a plan on it, but the phone was previously used for prepaid on the network. Would it work, or is there a line between prepaid phones and plan phones?
Thanks for your help!
How Much Is Unlimited Texting For Your Cell-phone Service?
I have AT&T for my cell phone service and to get unlimited texting I would have to pay $20 a month. That is a little much to pay a month just for unlimited texting. I now only have 200 texts a month, but I keep going over it. What is the price of other cell-phone services unlimited texts? Should I change services?
